Humanitarian of the Year
Tammy founded The Shona Project and has since done amazing work with over 14,000 girls in schools across Ireland. In order to support the girls during COVID, when schools were closed, she developed SHINE Festival, which was attended by over 40,000 girls.. In October of this year, SHINE Festival won a gold award for digital innovation at the IMRO Awards. She is a published author and an accomplished public speaker, and she tells her story, and that of all the girls she has met along the way beautifully.
Rory Halpin is the executive director of Spirasi, an organisation which has focused more and more of their attention on people who have fled war or political upheaval and entered Ireland seeking asylum. Rory leads this organisation which has responded to the ever increasing need for support of those arriving in Ireland seeking refuge and rehabilitation.
Ken Gibson is CEO of The Mission to End Leprosy. Apart from being a genuinely kind and generous man, Ken has single handedly led the 100+ year old charity through a process of modernisation so as to be able to have a more relevant impact on the eradication of leprosy and the suffering that it causes for people around the globe.
Innovation for Change
Launched in September 2016, The Shona Project CLG aims to educate, empower and inspire today’s Irish girls to become tomorrow’s resilient, capable and confident young women. In order to ensure that all Irish girls have the skills, tools and self-esteem they need to achieve their potential, TSP has adopted a three-pronged approach which includes school workshops, the development of a positive online community and events & projects.
Having expanded from Dublin, Cork and Limerick into Sligo, Galway, Athlone and Carlow…Teen-Turn provides hands-on technology experience to teenage girls from disadvantaged and under-represented communities, inspiring them to see themselves in STEM-oriented careers and make more informed third-level course choices. Teen-Turn provides teen girls the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and the support to acquire qualifications and jobs.
Now in its thirteenth year, Sing out with strings is a ground-breaking initiative that offers school children from Le Cheile National School, St Mary’s National School and Colaiste Nano Nagle secondary school with the chance to learn music for free. Harnessing the power of music to develop pupils’ concentration, coordination, listening and teamwork.
Journalism Excellence
Maria Delaney and Michelle Hennessy (Noteworthy.ie) developed a groundbreaking investigative series called Tough Start. In this multi-part series, they exposed the gargantuan challenges faced by children from the Traveller community across key areas impacting their development and opportunities, including access to healthcare and education, and humane living conditions. At the core of this process was a centring of the Traveller experience and of Traveller voices.
Donal O’Keeffe’s work covers many Irish issues including the mother and baby homes, homelessness and the lack of educational support for profoundly deaf children. O’Keeffe is incredibly skilled at telling the individual’s story and allowing the personal experiences to impact the reader. The time and dedication he gives to issues helps to keep them alive beyond their normal news cycle. The emotional impact of O’Keeffe’s writing inspires deep empathy from his readers.
Fellipe Lopes is a Filmmaker, Photographer, and Activist with focus on Human Rights, Environmental Issues and Education. He is currently on a mission in Lesbos, Greece, working with different projects and organisations to raise awareness about the refugee crisis to help support refugees and asylum seekers.
Felipe has directed and reported photo essays and documentaries on human rights and environmental injustices for a wide range of global organisations, striving to protect our future and report the injustices around the world.
Young Humanitarian
Over the past 3 and a half years Saoi has been committed to the fight to save the planet from the climate crisis by bringing forward the voices of the most affected people and areas. Saoi worked with the Fridays for Future movement internationally to bring activist refugees out of Afghanistan to safety in Germany and was the founder of Fridays for Future Ireland in January 2019 when they began climate striking outside Cork city hall. Since then Saoi has organised global youth strikes, spoken all over the country, lobbied politicians and woken us all up to the crisis we are facing.
Harry Nolan is a member of the Enniscorthy Defibrillator Initiative and is the app Administrator of Pulse Point for Wexford, an app designed in conjunction with Pulse Point Foundation to help members of the public locate their nearest defibrillator in an emergency. Harry receives the registrations and enters the defibrillators on the app so they can be located quickly with your mobile phone.
Joshua ,displaying huge empathy for those struggling with mental health issues, set up Brighter Thoughts Ireland, a service designed to create and deliver innovative approaches that educate, inform and inspire people to cultivate good mental health and reduce stigma leading to less death by suicide.
Digital Influence
Digital Charity Lab is a not for profit collective that works with charities to build digital skills and innovation, increase knowledge-sharing on online technology and strategies and drive collaborative working on digital projects. Digital Charity Lab’s mission is to become the national hub for information, data and expertise on digital, for Irish charities, to help them to engage more meaningfully in evolving digital channels and realise their full potential.

Fionnula Jones a Digital and Social Media Executive at 98FM with a large following on social media. She is informative, moral-minded and very, very funny. She promotes environmentally friendly, politically and socially correct content and has a strong moral compass. She used her social media to help inform and entertain people throughout the pandemic. Fionnula used her platform to fundraise a whopping 30,000 euro to help with the crisis in Afghanistan.
Corporate Impact
“Strive to do it better, Dare to be different, Care to do it right”. This is the vision of Hotel Doolin located in Doolin, Co. Clare. In 2013, they launched their Green Team Initiative as a way to become a carbon-neutral hotel. Part of this includes planting trees after every wedding held at the hotel, hosting coastal cleanups, and growing their own fruits & vegetables. As part of their Green Program, the hotel doesn’t sell any plastic bottles on their premises.
